Appendix VIII: Procedure for Establishing a New Representation

From: http://www.aallnet.org/chapter/reps_to_org.asp (as viewed on Mar. 1, 2006)

Any AALL committee, SIS, or member may propose that a new representation be established. The proposal is made by submitting to the Executive Board and Executive Director a written request that includes the following information:

The Executive Director will submit copies of the proposal to the President and Executive Board member assigned as liaison to representatives. These three shall constitute a review committee, which will advise the Executive Board. In the course of considering the proposal, the review committee shall consult, as necessary, with the chair of any committee or SIS that is proposed as the oversight or consultative body.

The review committee will contact the other organization and verify their mutual interests and determine the feasibility of establishing a representation. The review committee shall designate the type of representation (working group or ambassadorial/observer) and prepare for the Executive Board a recommendation to approve, modify, approve or deny the proposal.

The proposal and a written statement of the review committee's recommendation will be forwarded to the Executive Board, which shall approve, modify, approve, or deny the proposal at the Board's Spring Meeting.

The President-Elect shall, after consultation with the appropriate AALL committee or SIS , appoint an AALL member as representative within 30 days after the Executive Board action approving its creation. In the case of a new ambassadorial/observer representation, the President-Elect may appoint an AALL member as a "senior designee," to represent the AALL's President and/or Executive Director as instructed.
