LOCATION CHANGE!!
Lesbian and Gay Standing Committee Reception 2000

The 2000 Lesbian and Gay Standing Committee Reception will be held in the Presidential Suite of the Philadelphia Marriott, 1201 Market Street. AALL president Margaret Maes Axtmann has graciously provided this space for us. The William Way Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Community Center will not be accessible in time for our meeting, as elevator construction was delayed by building complications.

Please feel free to invite your friends and colleagues to this reception, to be held from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2000, as we get reacquainted with old friends and make new ones. If you have already registered, thank you. If you have yet to send in your form, please do so now.

The reception will include stationary buffet style displays of top round of beef served au jus with horseradish and miniature rolls; international and domestic cheese with baskets of assorted crackers and sliced French bread; grilled vegetables with herbed focaccia and parmigiano reggiano cheese; pineapple, melon, strawberries and seasonal fruits accompanied by pina colada dip, dark chocolate fondue and whipped cream; an assortment of miniature pastries, coffees & teas.

The reception fee is $12. Note this change: There *will* be a cash bar for all beverages aside from coffee and tea. This year's event is generously sponsored in part by Lexis®-Nexis®.

A form is attached and is also available at http://www.aallnet.org/sis/srsis/collage/volume3/form.htm. If you have already registered using the previous form, thank you. If you have not yet registered, please do so now. Registrations *MUST BE RECEIVED* by Tuesday, July 11, 2000, so that we can provide the caterer with an accurate count. Please register today!

Lunch with Jim Carmichael
from Linda Gray

Jim Carmichael, who is the speaker for the AALL Program, "Leadership in Diversity: The Last Socially Acceptable Prejudice," (Monday 4-5 p.m.) is an old friend of mine. We are planning to have lunch on Monday and I wanted to invite a few members of the Standing Committee to join us. I know this conflicts with the Association Luncheon (and for many of you, this is your only opportunity to get a yummy hotel chicken or fish meal!), and that we are all busy and have our schedules planned in advance for us, but if you are available and would like to join us, please let me know. Jim is an extremely erudite, charming, handsome and amusing man, and I'm sure we will have a wonderful time.

Unless I get too many positive responses, I'll not make reservations until after the business meeting so as not to exclude those not on this list, but I'd appreciate it if you could let me know before the conference, just for planning purposes. Looking forward to seeing all of you next month.

"Leadership in Diversity: The Last Socially Acceptable Prejudice," Monday, 4:00-5:00 p.m.
James V. Carmichael has completed extensive research on lesbian, bisexual and gay librarians and the attitudes of librarians toward lesbian, bisexual, gay or transgendered individuals. A dynamic and compelling speaker, he will present his findings and how they apply to law librarianship. A historian of librarianship, he can place lesbigay issues in context and provide concrete positive recommendations for the workplace and the Association as a whole in effectively confronting this last, neglected area of bias, prejudice and disrespect. Small groups will be formed to discuss the issues raised, which will be summarized in a final gathering of the entire group.
