Introduction and Recent News

One of the best ways to learn more about our interests and what we do is to attend one of our Annual Meeting programs. M/AV-SIS presents programs that meet one or more of the following three objectives:

We have three great programs and a roundtable planned for the 2011 Annual Meeting in Philadelphia.

Old Into New: Collaborative Law Library Digital Collections (program A-5, Sunday, July 24th, 2011 1:30 P.M. to 2:45 P.M.) focuses on collaborative efforts with state and university libraries or other consortia to build digital collections that enhance teaching and facilitate research. It is cosponsored by the Legal History and Rare Books SIS.

Can the National Broadband Program create a better and faster Internet? (M/AV-SIS program, Sunday, July 24th, 2011 3:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.) explains how the FCC's Congressionally mandated National Broadband Plan, which seeks to increase wired and wireless broadband capacity, may impact Internet connectivity for law libraries and law librarians. This program will include a broadband experiment/demonstration in which audience participation is greatly encouraged. If you are concerned about your internet speeds, bring your laptop, cell phone, and/or other Internet capable devices and join us.

The M/AV-SIS Roundtable Netflix and (other video services) in your library (Tuesday, July 26th, 2011 10:45 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.) will consider the licensing and copyright issues involved in institutions using Netflix and other similar services.

What You Need To Know About Using DVD Clips In The Classroom: Now You Can! (program K-2, Tuesday, July 26th, 2011 3:15 P.M. to 4:15 P.M.) examines the impact of the new statutory exemption for college and university educational DVD use from the Digital Millennium Copyright Act's prohibition found at 17 U.S.C. § 1201(a)(1)(A) against circumventing technological protections.
