AALL 2003: Host a Foreign Law Librarian

Submitted by Tracy L. Thompson

Last year AALL formed the Hospitality for Overseas Participants at the Annual Meeting Special Committee. The committee examined ways to increase and enhance participation by non-US attendees at the AALL Annual Meeting. Ultimately, they determined that much of what they hoped to accomplish was already being done by the FCIL-SIS through events like FCIL’s Annual Reception for Visitors from Abroad, and through the continuation of the Schaffer Grant.

The task of the host would be to answer any questions or concerns (from dress code queries to "Can I attend that?") and to help make the visit as smooth as possible. This might include suggesting some programs, meeting your guest for a drink or lunch, introducing them around, taking them to your SIS or Chapter meeting, bringing them to the FCIL reception, and generally making them feel included and not adrift in our sea of law librarians.

If you are interested in taking advantage of this unique opportunity to serve as a host to a visiting librarian please e-mail Tracy Thompson (tracy.thompson@yale.edu) as soon as possible. Please provide your complete contact information.
