Who Wants To Be A Volunteer?!!

No, Regis Philbin is not looking for contestants for a clone of his popular game show. But the ALL-SIS is scouting about for Section members to volunteer for the various committees which take care of the Section's programs and activities.

In reviewing the most recent Section Survey, I discovered that less than 2% of our total membership is actively involved in the committee work of the Section. As the second largest SIS we have plenty of bodies but few volunteers. So I'm making an appeal to all Section members to share in building our Section and making it more responsive to its members. This is an opportunity to contribute your expertise to the Section. Don't wait for others to sign up. The more members who come forth, the more the work is shared. Let's not overwork the few who usually sign up for committee work.

This past year two new committees were initiated with great results. The Awards Committee, chaired by Sally Holteroff (newly elected AALL Executive Board Member), developed the Section's first award, the Frederick C. Hicks Award for Outstanding Contribution to Academic Law Librarianship. The CONALL (Convocation for Newer Academic Law Librarians) Committee, chaired by Barbara Bintliff (newly elected AALL Vice-president/President-elect), will host the first program especially for new academic law librarians. One of the little known benefits of ALL-SIS committee participation is elevation to national office! Congratulations to Barbara and Sally!

The success of ALL-SIS depends on the active involvement of its members. So, please plan on volunteering some of your time to the activities of your Section. Below is the list of ALL-SIS committees which cover a wide range of functions and activities. I am sure you can find at least one which grabs your interest.
