Working with CALR Vendors

Calling all librarians who deal with CALR services in their law schools! The ALL-SIS Relations with Online Vendors Roundtable meets this summer on Monday, July 12, at 5:20 pm to explore ways we can work together to make sure our students graduate with a strong foundation in online research. To do that, librarians work with vendors to make sure that academic goals mesh properly with marketing goals. We discuss issues raised by us and vendors and seek answers that best serve our students.

What sort of questions do you have that you would like the group to consider? Here are some that have already been raised. How can we best manage passwords and IDs for part time faculty and visiting scholars? How can we encourage students to explore online resources other than the ones in which they receive training in their first year? Does the timing of vendor innovations and changes to their products fit well with our academic schedules; are there ways to deal with changes more effectively? How do we deal with access for non law students taking law courses? What is the librarian's and the vendors' proper roles in CALR training for first year students?

Consider your own relationships with your vendors. This Roundtable is a place where you can find out how other schools are handling issues you have. This Roundtable is a place where you can ask vendors about their policies and explain why you think there should be changes. This Roundtable is a place where librarians and vendors are committed to working together to resolve problems and set goals for the future. Please join us!
