Chicago, October 26, 1998-The American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) is pleased to announce the 1999 slate of candidates for Executive Board office. Ballots will be mailed to all members by March 1, 1999 and successful candidates will be announced in early April 1999. Nominees are as follows:

For the Office of Vice President/President-Elect: Robert L. Oakley (Director of the Law Library and Professor of Law, Edward Bennett Williams Library, Georgetown University Law Center) and Roberta I. Shaffer (Library Director, Covington & Burling, Washington, D.C.).

For the Office of Secretary: Karl T. Gruben (Director of Firm Libraries, Vinson & Elkins LLP, Houston, TX) and Jeanne Reynolds (Librarian, Kemp Smith Duncan & Hammond, El Paso, TX).

For the Office of Executive Board Member (for 2 openings): Michael D. Jones (Librarian, Contra Costa County Law Library, Martinez, CA), Maryruth Storer (Director of the Law Library, Orange County Law Library, Santa Ana, CA), Cossette T. Sun (Law Library Director, Bernard E. Witkin Alameda County Law Library, Oakland, CA), and Cornell H. Winston (Law Librarian, Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, Los Angeles, CA).

The AALL Nominations Committee is charged with presenting a slate of candidates to the membership that, if elected, would maintain a balance on the Executive Board of members by library type, geographic location, gender, and minority representation to the extent possible.

In 1999, the continuing Executive Board Members will be Margaret Maes Axtmann, President; James S. Heller, Immediate Past President; Janis L. Johnston, Treasurer; Mark Folmsbee, Heather Braithwaite Simmons, Frank Y. Liu and Ruth A. Fraley, Members.

The Committee noted those members continuing on the 1999 Executive Board would consist of five academic law librarians, one private law librarian, and one state, county and court law librarian. Geographically, four members of the current board are from the midwest, two from the east, one from the southeast, and none from the west. One member continues minority representation in 1999.

The American Association of Law Libraries was founded in 1906 to promote and enhance the value of law libraries to the legal and public communities, to foster the profession of law librarianship, and to provide leadership in the field of legal information.
