AALL to Present Video Conference
on Change Management in the Age of Technology
"The Age of Technology: Your Guide to Change Management" is the theme of the
American Association of Law Libraries' (AALL) 2nd Annual Satellite Videoconference, to be
held on April 16, 1998 from 12:00 noon - 1:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. This
videoconference is being presented through a partnership between AALL and West Group and
is part of AALL's continuing efforts to maximize professional development opportunities at
national, regional, and local levels.
The Information Age is creating a work revolution for librarians--work evolves, new
work is created, and other work disappears. Technology contributes to this revolution in
many ways; chiefly, it accelerates the pace of change, creating anxiety and a wish for
things to stay the same. The goal of the videoconference is to provide participants with
an increased understanding of the change process and to provide some practical information
about managing, coping with, and embracing change.
Participants will learn to define the organizational and technological issues of the
change process and to identify management tools and techniques necessary for the planning,
coordination, implementation and assessment of a successful change process. Participants
will also learn the advantages of being pro-active as a change agent within their
organizations and how to locate resources to assist in managing a change process.
The teleconference speakers are James L. Hoover, Associate Dean for Library &
Computer Services, Columbia University Law School Library; Florence Mason, Adjunct
Professor of Library and Information Sciences, University of North Texas, School of
Library and Information Sciences; and Mike Wilens, Executive Vice President and Chief
Technology Officer, West Group.
The American Association of Law Libraries was founded in 1906 to promote and enhance
the value of law libraries to the legal and public communities, to foster the profession
of law librarianship, and to provide leadership in the field of legal information.
