Virginia State Agency and
Georgia Libraries Win AALL Public Access to Government
Information Awards
For Immediate Release
July 3, 2003
The University of Georgia Libraries and the Virginia
Department of Planning and Budget were each selected
as recipients of the 2003 Public Access to Government
Information Awards from the American Association
of Law Libraries.
The University of Georgia libraries won the award
for collecting and coordinating state documents
and managing them in the Georgia Government Publications
database. The GGP was designated the depository
for Georgia state documents in 1993. Today the
GGP has records of more than 15,000 publications
stored in its database. Since 2000, the GGP also
maintains electronic (if available) as well as
print copies of Georgia state documents.
The Virginia Department of Planning and Budget
was recognized for designing the Virginia Regulatory
Town Hall Web site at http://www.townhall.state.va.us/.
The Web site states that it is a comprehensive
source of information on the development of regulations
in Virginia. The Town Hall is designed to allow
interested parties to find regulations and track
proposed changes. It also promotes public participation
in the administrative rulemaking process and allows
the Commonwealth to manage the regulatory process
more efficiently.
Established in 1999, the Public Access to Government
Information Award honors significant contributions
by people or organizations to protect and promote
greater public access to government information.
The award will be presented July 14 during the
96th Annual Meting and Conference in Seattle during
the Association Luncheon.
