AALL and West Award $2,500
in Grants
For Immediate Release

The American Association of Law Libraries and
West have awarded $2,500 in grants to two library
students and seven AALL members to attend the
AALL Annual Meeting and Conference July 12-16
in Seattle.
The recipients of the 2003 grants sponsored by
West are:
- Carol Collins is a catalog librarian at the
University of Tennessee Law Library. She has
worked with the State, Court and County Law
Libraries Special Interest Section to revise
the Sourcebook for Law Library Governing
Boards. She earned her Master of Science
in Information Science from the University of
Tennessee.
- Debra Lynn Denslaw graduated in May from
the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Graduate School of Library and Information Science.
She is a graduate assistant at the university’s
College of Law and a student member of AALL.
Denslaw earned her J.D. from Valparaiso University
in Indiana.
- Rachel Hewett-Beah is a cataloging librarian
at the DuFour Law Library at the Catholic University
of America in Washington, D.C. She recently
graduated with a dual degree in librarianship
and medieval history. Hewett-Beah is a member
of AALL and the Law Librarians Society of Washington,
D.C., Inc.
- Donald Ford is a reference and interlibrary
loan librarian at the University of Colorado
Law Library. He is a member of AALL.
- John Dethman is the access services/reference
librarian at the University of Missouri-Columbia
School of Law Library. He has an M.L.I.S. from
the University of Washington, a J.D. from the
University of Denver College of Law and an L.L.M.
in taxation from New York University. Dethman
recently published an article in Legal Reference
Services Quarterly on the changing nature
of the publishing industry. He is a member of
AALL and the Mid-America Association of Law
Libraries.
- Bret Christensen is a library science student
at California State University in San Jose.
He also works as a library assistant at the
Orange County Public Law Library in Santa Ana,
Calif. Christensen is a student member of AALL
and the Southern California Association of Law
Libraries.
- Tom Gaylord is a law librarian at the Illinois
Institute of Technology Chicago-Kent College
of Law Library. He has an M.L.I.S. from the
Dominican University Graduate School of Library
and Information Science and a J.D. from the
University of Illinois. Gaylord is a member
of AALL and the Chicago Association of Law Libraries.
- David Mark Zopfi-Jordan is an assistant librarian
for document delivery services for the University
of Minnesota Law Library. As a member of the
Minnesota Association of Law Libraries, he was
chair of the Public Relations Committee in 2002-2003,
nominated for treasurer in the Executive Board
in 2003-2004, and was a member of the LSTA Grant
Task Force in 2002-2003. He is also a member
of AALL. Zopfi-Jordan received his M.L.S. from
the University of North Texas.
- Qian Cui is a catalog librarian at Georgia
State University College of Law Library. She
is a member of AALL and the Southeastern Chapter
of the American Association of Law Libraries.
The grants cover the recipients’ registration
fees for the meeting. The winners will be able
to check out the various educational programs,
the Exhibit Hall, the Opening Reception, the Association
Luncheon and the Closing Banquet at the Annual
Meeting.
Established in 1952, the AALL Grants Program
provides financial assistance to law librarians
or library school students who hold promise of
future involvement in AALL and the law library
profession. More than 1,000 librarians have received
these funds to assist them in attending AALL educational
activities. The funds are donated by vendors,
AALL and AALL members.
