Bookless in Seattle

For Immediate Release
June 19, 2003

Please help us make the 5th Annual Books for Children drive a success this
year by donating books for elementary school children in Seattle. The
recipient this year is First Place School, the education component of a
social service agency serving children and families in transition in
Seattle. The children attending this school are coming from situations
involving domestic violence, alcohol and drug dependency, and
homelessness. To learn more about the school visit their website
(http://www.firstplaceschool.org/).

First Place School serves children aged 5 to 14 years old, in kindergarten
through 7th grade. The school librarian has provided us with a wish list
of needed items:

  1. graphic novels (these are stand-alone stories in comics form,
published as a book)(See Berkeley Public Library Teen Services List of
    Graphic Novels, http://www.infopeople.org/bpl/teen/graphic.html, OR
    Graphic Novel Title List, http://www.teencybercenter.org/lists/titles.htm)
  2. fiction and non-fiction for young adults (junior high age students)
  3. intermediate (not college) level English dictionaries
  4. basic foreign language dictionaries (Spanish-English; French-English
    etc.)

Bring your donations with you to the conference OR send them beforehand
to:
