The first AALL-endowed scholarship, the LexisNexis™/John
R. Johnson Memorial Scholarship was established
in 1994 in memory of John R. Johnson, the director
of the legal librarian segment of LIS at Mead
Data Central and a longtime law library supporter.
He believed that librarians are "the only
ones who know how real users use real information."
Optimistic about the role of librarians in the
future, Mr. Johnson believed that law librarians
would assume even greater responsibility in the
expanding electronic-networked environment.
This year LexisNexis celebrates its 10th anniversary
in supporting AALL’s scholarships, grants
and many special projects. AALL thanks LexisNexis
for its continued sponsorship of various Association
activities over the last 10 years and looks forward
to working with the company on future projects
that promote law librarianship.
Scholarship winners will be recognized at the
Association Luncheon on July 14 during the AALL
Annual Meeting in Seattle.
