BNA
Makes Major Contribution to
AALL's 2002 Professional Development Program
And 2002 Annual Meeting and Conference
For Immediate Release
April 4, 2002
BNA, Inc.
has made a major contribution to AALL for its 2002 professional development
programs. In announcing the gift, AALL President Barbara Bintliff
says that the money will be used primarily for the Professional Development
Program to support the six regional workshops and five Annual Meeting
workshops in 2002.
In addition,
the BNA gift will also underwrite four technology programs at the
2002 Annual Meeting. These begin with a plenary session on Tuesday,
July 23 presented by Eric Miller, Activity Lead for the W3C World
Wide Web Consortium's Semantic Web Initiative. Immediately following
Mr. Miller's presentation, Annual Meeting attendees will be able
to choose one of three special technology related presentations
keyed to library type - academic, firm or state, court and county
libraries. These sessions promise to be one of the 2002 Orlando
Annual Meeting highlights.
BNA provided
the initial funding to start AALL's professional development program
in 1997, and this contribution has allowed AALL to conduct 29 regional
programs on 11 different topics in 20 different cities throughout
the country. These regional workshops were attended by over 900
librarians throughout the country. AALL has also been able to provide
17 Annual Meeting Workshops with five more on the schedule for the
2002 meeting in Orlando through BNA's support.
BNA's contributions
have helped to underwrite the cost for two online tutorial programs
and allow AALL to offer these at no cost to members. Over 1,100
law librarians have participated in the tutorials. BNA funding also
supports the Professional Development Committee's Desktop Learning
Series in AALL Spectrum and its moderated listserv discussions
that are also available to all AALL members at no cost.
