I am pleased to announce that Janet Sinder, associate director for research services at the Thurgood Marshall Law Library, University of Maryland at Baltimore, has been selected as the new editor of Law Library Journal, starting with volume 100. Janet has strong editorial skills and experience working on LLJ as associate and assistant editor under Richard Danner, who served as LLJ editor from 1984 to 1994.
She received her MLS from the University of Illinois and her JD from the University of Michigan. She has been published widely, including in LLJ and Legal Reference Services Quarterly. She currently serves on the LRSQ Editorial Board. In 1997 she won an AALL/Lexis Nexis Call for Papers Award for her article on Irish Legal History (93 LLJ 231-60(2001)).
Janet will be the 24th person and 9th woman to serve as LLJ editor since its beginning in 1908. Her appointment follows the resignation of Frank Houdek, who has served as editor for the past 13 years.
On behalf of the AALL Executive Board, I’d like to thank the LLJ Editor Search Task Force for their excellent work. Richard Leiter chaired the task force, and the members were: Paul Healey, Mary Lu Linnane, Kris Niedringhaus, and Kathie Sullivan. Serving as ex-officio members were Frank Houdek and Steve Ligda, interim executive director.

During the month of February, AALL members took a wide range of photographs of law librarians working, meeting, teaching, and doing all that law librarians do in a given day or week. About 45 AALL members from 34 different law libraries across the country submitted more than 150 photos to the contest. Congratulations to the winners, and many thanks to each and every member who participated and shared their photos with AALL.
Winning photographs may be viewed on AALLNET. Detailed information on the winners can be found here. You can also view all of the "Day in the Life" entries on AALLNET.
Starting in 2005 AALL offered all its chapters and SISs the option to use the AALL Online Election System. The system is a customizable application that allows chapters and SISs to easily set up and run their own elections. This year six chapters and 10 SISs used the system.
"As administrator for the Chicago Association of Law Libraries (CALL) 2006 and 2007 elections, I found the entire set-up process very straightforward and flexible," said Susan Siebers, director of library and information services at Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP. "We included our Chicago skyline logo and candidate photos, so what the members saw looked terrific. Feedback has been extremely positive. We consider it a success since 55 percent of our eligible voters voted this year, but we will try to get even more voting next year as we continue to use the system."
