The national mid-term elections have come and gone, but you still have time to cast your ballot for another important election—you can vote for the next AALL vice president, secretary, and Executive Board members. Maes Begins Term as New Vendor Liaison
Margaret (Margie) Maes officially started her position as AALL's vendor liaison, on November 1. Maes attended the Executive Board meetings on November 5 and 6 and is now making plans to meet with other AALL leaders and vendors. She has also been named vice chair of the Colloquium Planning Committee for the upcoming vendor colloquium being planned for late February and as an ex-officio member of the Committee for Relations with Information Vendors and the Price Index for Legal Publications Committee. December Webinar: What Law Firm Administrators Want Librarians to Know
Librarians often discuss what firm management should know about the library, but do we know all we should about what it takes to manage our firms? Over the next several months, members of the Private Law Libraries Special Interest Section will moderate a series of webinars to provide a primer in law firm management from the view point of firm managers and administrators.
The first webinar in this series, What Law Firm Administrators Want Librarians to Know, will take place on December 8 at 12 p.m. Eastern. Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer Robert Burger and Director of Finance/Chief Financial Officer Thomas Annick at Sterne, Kessler, Goldstein & Fox P.L.L.C in Washington, D.C., will lead us through such topics as planning in response to internal and external changes, the impact of costs on the bottom line, law firm leverage and its implications in today's economy, and client pressure for billing options and alternatives.

2011 Annual Meeting Scheduling Forms Due December 1
Last month the Annual Meeting Program Committee met in Chicago to select educational programs for the 2011 AALL Annual Meeting in Philadelphia. The committee selected 66 programs and four workshops, which will be detailed on AALLNET in January.
At the end of last month, all committee, special interest section, and caucus chairs; chapter presidents; and affiliate groups received email memos outlining the new Annual Meeting schedule for the 2011 conference, including scheduling information for your meetings and functions in Philadelphia. Please submit your online scheduling form by December 1 to ensure that your meetings and events are listed in the preliminary Annual Meeting information on AALLNET.
Last Chance to Volunteer for an AALL Committee
AALL is accepting applications for 2011-2012 committee volunteers through December 1. Through working on committees you not only help to strengthen the profession, you also meet other colleagues who are in various stages of their careers and willing to share their experiences. Your work as a committee member helps you gain and practice useful skills that you might not find in your everyday work. Visit AALLNET to explore the variety of committees available, as well as to get an idea of the work of each group before you fill out the volunteer form.

CRIV Invites New Product Award Nominations
Have you discovered any great new library products this past year? If so, let us know! The New Product Award honors a new and innovative commercial legal information product that enhances or improves existing law library services and/or procedures. New products may include, but are not limited to, printed material, computer hardware and/or software, or other products or devices that aid or improve access to legal information, the legal research process, or procedures for technical processing of library materials. Any product that has been re-introduced in a new format or with substantial changes is also eligible. A new product is one that has been in the library-related marketplace for two years or less.
It is time to nominate these products for AALL's New Product Award. The deadline for receipt of submissions is January 31.
Call for Spectrum Architecture Series Authors
AALL Spectrum is looking for authors for the annual May architecture issue. If you have a beautiful law library or a great story of renovation or relocation, here's your chance to share it with law librarians across the country. Send your story ideas to Spectrum Editorial Director Mark Estes by December 10.
Law Library Journal Issues Volume 102, Number 4
The Fall issue of Law Library Journal has just been published and mailed to members and subscribers. The issue contains an explanation of and guide to researching the human rights system in Europe, focusing on the Council of Europe; a discussion of why it is important for academic law librarians to understand the research process of law faculty; and a historical review of the law of access to public documents. The results of two research studies are reported—one on URL stability within the Legal Information Archive's Chesapeake Project documents and one on the quality of academic law library catalog records. As usual, the Fall issue also contains the business proceedings from the Annual Meeting in Denver (with photos!).
AALL Spectrum Readership Survey Results
The results of the 2010 AALL Spectrum Survey are in. Nearly a third of AALL's membership shared their thoughts on the Association's magazine, and these responses will be instrumental in improving Spectrum in the future. Thank you for taking the time to respond.
Giving Thanks and Giving to AALL
As we celebrate Thanksgiving next week, it's a good time to reflect on things in our professional lives for which we're grateful. Thanks to the support of a scholarship or grant from AALL, many of us have been able to attend an AALL Annual Meeting, go to library or law school, or participate in a workshop. And even if we ourselves haven't been recipients of these monetary awards, we have all benefited from the wide participation that this funding brings to our profession.
If you haven't already done so, please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to one of AALL's funds. On AALLNET you'll find a list of giving opportunities along with instructions for making your contribution electronically or by mail. The Association is grateful for the generosity of our members and the resulting benefits to our profession.
Headquarters Closed for Holidays
AALL Headquarters and Government Relations Office will be closed during the holiday season from December 24 to January 2. The offices will reopen on Monday, January 3.
The University of Michigan Law Library has rolled out a new ad campaign that promotes the library and law librarians as information experts who can help students succeed. Staff members instrumental in creating the campaign include Margaret Leary, director of the law library; Jenny Selby, senior associate law librarian; Lisa Yellin, director of communications at the law school; and Tish Holbrook, law school art director.
Caroline Osborne was named director of the law library at Washington & Lee School of Law in September. She was formerly the research and instruction services librarian at Washington & Lee before serving as the library's acting director.
