I can honestly say that this was an excellent learning experience and practical in every way. Maureen Sullivan our facilitator provided tremendous amounts of useful information on the managerial experience. I left the management institute with a higher level of confidence and immediately started practicing what I had learned with great success. I met wonderful colleagues and had opportunities to share professional experiences and interact in small group settings. I highly recommend the management institute to those contemplating moving into management and even the "experienced" manager.

Having a significant block of time with other managers who are grappling with the same issues was invaluable. We were in a safe place to openly discuss our challenges and then receive immediate feedback. We received excellent instruction from the speakers as well as tools and books to bring back to our offices. I did make some stronger connections to a few participants which I value.

It was my pleasure to be a part of the 2011 AALL Management Institute. The ability to gather Librarians from across not only the country, but from a variety of Libraries, to discuss and learn from each other is invaluable. We quickly realized that we face many similar issues and challenges on a daily basis. Both the theoretical and practical skills we learned using a variety of methods such as group discussions and team activities have prepared us to move forward in our careers to the next level and to able to weather today's challenging economic climate. Since attending the 2011 AALL Management Institute I have put what I learned into action by taking a more proactive role within our Library, promoting the value of our department within the firm, and becoming more active in the local AALL chapter as one of the officers. If I had the opportunity to do it again, I'm there in a heartbeat!
