Maxine Wright is collection management librarian at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) Law Library and joined AALL in 2009. Why did you join AALL?
AALL is a renowned organization and has proven to be a leader in the world of law librarianship.
Why do you stay a member?
I remain a member because AALL has the right blend of ingredients for a superb dish of professionalism, a la mode. It has a strong community, thousands of knowledgeable professionals, and there are no shortcomings when it comes to finding leaders or lending support.
What one membership benefit is most valuable to you?
AALL2go learning center is most valuable to me. I have access to programs, webinars, handouts, and recordings of past AALL conferences and events. This is a great vehicle for finding out what topics are in high rotation at annual meetings. I love the keyword search function. With just a few taps on my iPad I can find well-crafted solutions and suggestions for routine and complex library problems.
What is your favorite memory associated with AALL?
My favorite memory thus far would be meeting the AALL Executive Board at CONELL (the Conference of Newer Law Librarians). It was very exciting. They were just as eager to meet us as we were to meet them. The room had so much energy. I left this event charged up and ready to take a bite out of AALL.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Typically, writing, blogging, or volunteering at local public libraries or hospitals. However, since I recently relocated from New York to North Carolina, lately I have been taking walking tours of my new neighborhood and NCCU Campus.
What book are you currently reading?
Making a Difference: Stories of Vision and Courage from American Leaders by Captain
, Chesley Sullenberger.
What’s your favorite travel/vacation destination?
I’d like to say Bora Bora, but the truth is Disney World. It really is a magical place. It does not matter what time of day it is or how sweltering hot it is, everyone is smiling from ear to ear.
