Hilary Naab is a Branch Librarian for the U.S. Court of Appeals, 8th Circuit Library in Cedar Rapids, IA. She received her MLS in 2009 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Why did you join AALL?
The 8th Circuit Librarian, Ann Fessenden, is a former AALL President. She encourages all 8th Circuit librarians to be AALL members as part of our professional development and I have been a member since I started in 2009.
Why do you stay a member?
For the networking and continuing education I receive from my talented colleagues.
What one membership benefit is most valuable to you?
While I think the networking opportunities are fantastic, I do enjoy the AALL publications. These publications allow me to stay informed on topics related to my profession and I love the AALL Spectrum
library photos :)
What is your favorite memory associated with AALL?
I recently attended my first AALL Conference in Boston. I enjoyed meeting other first-time attendees at CONELL and meeting fellow librarians throughout the many educational programs. What a great location for a conference; Boston is an amazing city!
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I enjoy spending time with my family, including our cat, Lexi and our miniature dachshund, Bella. I also do Tae Kwon Do and should test for my black belt this summer!
What book(s) are you currently reading?
For fun: The Girl Who Played With Fire
For business: The Embedded Librarian and The Checklist Manifesto (AALL Conference recommendations)
What’s your favorite travel/vacation destination?
Living in Iowa means cold, snowy winters so my husband and I like to escape somewhere warm. Our favorite beach destination so far has been Puerto Vallarta. My husband and stepdaughter were able to travel with me to Boston and so far this has been our favorite vacation in the states!
