2008 AALL Annual Meeting and Conference

THIS WORKSHOP IS FULL.

W-5: Amazing Technical Services: The Director’s Cut

Saturday, July 12 • 12:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. (11:45 a.m. check-in/lunch)

Level: Intermediate; Half day (afternoon)

Competency: Library Management

Target Audience: Law library directors and administrators

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Library directors and administrators will be able to analyze new and forthcoming technologies to enhance and improve information retrieval and research tools.
  2. Library directors and administrators will assess new collection development tools, administrative reports and related services.

Law library directors constantly face the challenges of providing excellent services with limited resources, underscored by an unprecedented spectrum of electronic resources and tools.

Technical services librarians now are poised to take on new challenges in addition to new technologies. Gone are the days of the clunky online catalog, voluminous piles of acquisitions orders and laborious hand-collection of statistics. This workshop will update library administrators on 21st century technical services tools and solutions for a wide array of management issues, including assessment, acquisitions and information access functions. Information will be provided and delivered in a variety of models in a fast-moving, interactive format. The workshop also will permit time and a space for library administrators to reflect and focus on these new and enhanced solutions through dialog, demonstrations and discussion of the impact on individual libraries’ missions and needs.
