Research Committee Action Plan
Committee Charge
This committee reviews and proposes changes to the Association's Research Agenda, works within the Association
and with other library associations to encourage research, and administers the Association's research grant program
by reviewing applications, making awards and monitoring research activities.
AALL 2005-2010 Strategic Directions -- Goals:
1. Leadership
Law Librarians will be recognized and valued as the foremost leaders and experts in legal information, research,
and technology.
2. Education
Law Librarians will have the education and training they need to meet and leverage the challenges of the changing
information environment.
3. Advocacy
Law librarians will influence the outcome of legal information, technology policy, and librarianship issues of
concern to AALL members.
Research Committee Goals and Objectives
1. Leadership
The committee will point AALL members towards the future by supporting research that expands the boundaries of
law librarianship and adds to our understanding of legal information, research, and technology.
Objectives
- Revise the research agenda and submit it to the Board
- Revise evaluation forms to provide better comparisons among applicants
- Select leading edge research projects for grant funding
- Post most recent grant reports on web site
- Create an online, searchable archive of past reports
2. Education
(a)The committee will educate AALL membership to successfully apply for research grants.
Objectives
- Post sample applications on committee web site
- Write a Spectrum article about the grant process
- Ask chapter newsletters to run short article about the grant program
- Submit a 30 minute presentation for annual meeting on the research agenda and grant application process
(b) The committee will educate AALL membership on the research process.
Objectives
- Explore feasibility of sponsoring conferences on research topics, such as statistics, at chapter level.
- Create a link from the Committee web site to Evidence Based Library and Information Practice, an open
access journal on library research.
- Provide access to "how to" articles on the web site.
3. Advocacy
The committee will advocate for research to be done on issues of concern to AALL members and librarians
internationally.
Objectives
- Encourage AALL members to suggest changes to the research plan.
- Provide links to other possible research funding sources on web site.
