Annual Reports of the Public Relations Committee

1979-1980

1979-1980 Public Relations Committee

Our year began with the establishment of Committee aims and goals at the 1979 Annual Meeting. We seek to promote AALL, particularly with the legal community and its professional activities. In addition, we wish to work with AALL Chapters and all members in developing public relations activities on a local level.

In pursuing these aims, we exhibited at three major meetings throughout the year. In August 1979, we rented exhibit space at the American Bar Association Annual Meeting in Dallas. Carol Marks assisted with local arrangements, as did Alice Murray in Phoenix in January. This free exhibit booth was a first for us at the American Association of Law Schools Annual Meeting. And in April 1980, we utilized free exhibit space at the ABA National Conference on Law Office Economics and Management. Local volunteers led by Theresa Oppedal staffed the booth and answered questions about our activities and membership. This has proven to be a successful PR tool.

We have just begun to develop our goals on a very superficial level. Future Committees will need to develop polished programs and literature that will further reflect our professional activities. Although the AALL Executive Board approved our basic expenses for exhibits, we must invest in a permanent display. We must encourage all members, chapters and committees to promote AALL whenever possible.
