What is a RSS feed?
Is there a web site that you visit daily? It would be great if the
website came to you instead, wouldn't it?
That's exactly what a RSS feed does. RSS fees
can be called many names such as "Really Simple Syndication" or "Rich Site
Summary." What an RSS feed does is allow a website to be "read" by
using special programs or website.
The RSS feed can be read on other websites or
aggregators. For example, you can read RSS feeds using an online
aggregator. Some online aggregators you might use are
Bloglines,
NewsIsFree, or
Yahoo's
aggregator service. You can also use news aggregators to
read RSS feeds. These news aggregators include
FeedDemon,
Feedreader,
NewsGator, and
Pluck.
Or, for career-related RSS feeds, you can
simply come to the AALL Placement Committee website.
If you set up your own method of reading RSS
feeds though, just keep an eye out for the RSS button on websites. It's
typically orange and says "RSS" or "XML" on it. Follow the instructions to
copy the RSS feed into your aggregator. It's really that easy!
