
TERMS OF OFFICE FOR NOMINEES 2010 SLATE:
The person elected to the office of Vice-President/President Elect (VP/PE) will serve from July, 2010 to July, 2013. The commitment is to serve one year as VP/PE, one as President, and one as Immediate Past President.
The person elected to the office of Treasurer will serve from July, 2010 to July, 2013.
Two Executive Board members will be elected to serve three year terms from July, 2010 to July, 2013.
SCHEDULE OF MEETINGS WHERE ALL BOARD MEMBER ATTENDANCE IS REQUIRED:
July of each year: Board Meeting preceding the Annual Meeting from 3:00 PM Thursday to 5:00 PM Friday.
November of each year: Board Meeting (in Chicago) from 9:30 AM Thursday to 4:30 PM Saturday.
April of each year: Board Meeting (in Chicago) from 1:00 PM Thursday to 5:00 PM Saturday.
CHAPTER VISITS:
Any Executive Board Member may be asked to represent the AALL Board on Chapter visits. These visits may require multiple days travel. An Executive Board Member making a chapter visit will offer greeting from the Board and a report as to Board activities.
ADDITIONAL COMMITMENTS AND DUTIES OF BOARD MEMBERS:
All Board members will be assigned to be liaisons to several AALL Committees.
Some Second and Third Year Board Members will be asked to serve on the Board's Finance and Budget Committee. This will entail Chicago meetings in October/November and February. Additional meetings of the Finance and Budget Committee may be called if financial conditions so require.
Other Board members will serve on one of the other two Board Committees [Administration or Strategic Directions] which normally meet remotely.
SOME OF THE ADDITIONAL COMMITMENTS AND DUTIES OF THE PERSON ELECTED TREASURER:
It is the Treasurer's responsibility to see that the Association's finances are well managed and expended in conformance with the Association's financial policies and standard accounting procedures and that the Association's financial reports are made fully available to all AALL members.
The Treasurer chairs the Finance and Budget Committee. This will entail Chicago meetings in October/November and February. Additional meetings of the Finance and Budget Committee may be called if financial conditions so require.
The Treasurer is a member of the Executive Director Review Committee.
The Treasurer prepares an annual report to be published in the AALL Spectrum which documents the Association's finances at the close of the previous fiscal year. The Treasurer also presents a written report at the Business Meeting during the Annual Meeting and Conference.
SOME OF THE ADDITIONAL COMMITMENTS AND DUTIES OF THE PERSON ELECTED VP/PE:
During the six months prior to assuming the office of Vice President-Elect:
Prior to assuming office the person elected as the incoming VP/PE:
Attend Committee and Board meetings in Chicago
Represent AALL at the Special Libraries Association (SLA).
During the year as VP/PE:
Attend various committee meetings at AALL headquarters in Chicago.
Participate in the site visit to Annual Meeting location for year as President
Participate in training activity with Executive Director (date and location vary)
Attend British and Irish Association of Law Librarians meeting as AALL Representative.
During year as President:
Attend various committee meetings at AALL headquarters in Chicago.
Prepare a President's message for AALLNET
Select topics, locate authors, and write introductions for three Spectrum members' briefings
Attend meetings of sister library associations, the American Bar Association, and the American Association of Law Schools
Write three President's columns for AALL Spectrum as well as an article for the Annual Meeting newspaper.
Attend Depository Library Council meetings
Participate in Executive Director's annual performance review.
Attend Mayflower II meeting of chief staff and chief elected officers of legal education- related organizations
Attend Joint Study Institute (biennial in even-numbered years)
Participate in various Annual Meeting planning activities
During Year as Past President:
Chair the Executive Director Annual Review Committee
EXPENSES:
AALL covers all travel, lodging, meal, and incidental expenses for all Board members at all scheduled meetings except for the Annual Meeting where only the member's additional hotel nights (generally Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday) are reimbursed.
Board members are expected to cover all other expenses of their attendance at the Annual Meeting.
If any additional meetings are required, they would be also be covered the same as a Board Meeting.
Chapter visits (as assigned) are also reimbursed under the same Policy.
