Liaison Guidelines

Committee members follow these guidelines to establish a liaison relationship with assigned chapters/SISs:

  • Determine if there is an existing government relations committee; if so, contact its chair and provide a quick summary of current issues.
  • Contact the chapter/SIS president and provide a quick summary of current issues.
  • If there is no government relations committee, explain the value of having one and relate examples of other chapters/SISs that have active committees.
  • Ask if you can subscribe to the chapter/SIS listserv and if you can provide legislative updates and relevant government affairs news via the listserv.
  • Alternatively, share materials with the government relations committee or its chair.
  • Alert the committee about this website.
  • Ask what the chapter's/SIS's legislative issues are and offer your services as a contact person.
  • Propose a program for the chapter's/SIS's annual meeting (either with you as the speaker or your finding other speakers).
  • Offer to speak at a monthly lunch meeting.
  • Write articles for the chapter's/SIS's newsletter or coordinate source materials for others' articles.
  • Contribute to this website and encourage others to do so.
