Bandelier National Monument (Approximately 2 hours from Albuquerque)

  • Take I-25 north towards Santa Fe for 60 miles.
  • Take exit 27-B to United States 599, the Santa Fe Relief Route. Continue for 10 miles.
  • Bear right to merge onto U.S. 84/285 towards Pojoaque and Los Alamos.
  • After passing Cuyumunge, merge right onto New Mexico 502 to Los Alamos.
  • Bear left and exit onto New Mexico 4 towards White Rock. Continue for 12 miles, passing White Rock.
  • The entrance is on the left. Have your fee (usually $12 per car)

Bosque del Apache  (Approximately 2 hours from Albuquerque)

  • From the north (Albuquerque, New Mexico), take I-25 south to San Antonio exit 139, then route 380 east .5 mile, then State Highway 1 south 8 miles to the refuge

Very Large Array (Approximately 2.5 hours from Albuquerque)

  • On the Plains of San Agustin fifty miles west of Socorro, New Mexico. Take I-25 South to exit for San Agustin / VLA and head west.

Chaco Culture National Historic Park (Approximately 2.5 hours from Albuquerque)

  • Chaco Canyon is located in northwestern New Mexico. The preferred and recommended access route to the park is from the north, via US 550 (formerly NM 44) and County Road (CR) 7900, and CR 7950.
  • From the north, turn off US 550 at CR 7900--3 miles southeast of Nageezi and approximately 50 miles west of Cuba (at mile 112.5). This route is clearly signed from US 550 to the park boundary (21 miles). The route includes 8 miles of paved road (CR 7900) and 13 miles of rough dirt road (CR7950).

Taos (132 miles, about 2.5 hours from Albuquerque)

White Sands National Monument (Approximately 3 hours from Albuquerque)

  • The visitor center is located on U.S. Highway 70, 15 miles (24 km) southwest of lamogordo and 52 miles east of Las Cruces, New Mexico . Travelers from Carlsbad Caverns to southern Arizona can follow U.S. 82 through the scenic Sacramento Mountains to reach White Sands National Monument.

Carlsbad Caverns (Approximately 6 hours from Albuquerque)

  • Get on I-40 East and go to exit 218 for NM285/US-285 toward Vaughn/Santa Fe
  • Keep right at the fork to continue toward US-285 and merge on to US-285
  • Slight left at US-285/US-60 and continue to follow US-285
  • Slight right at US-180/US-62
  • Turn right at NM-7
  • 727 Carlsbad Cavern Highway
