Acquisitions and Systems Librarian; UCLA Law Library; Los Angeles

UCLA’s Hugh and Hazel Darling Law Library invites applications for the position of Acquisitions and Systems Librarian.

Position Duties

Under the general direction of the Director, Bibliographic Services and Collection Management, the Acquisitions and Systems Librarian oversees all acquisitions functions, procedures and related staff and is responsible for the department’s systems support, including administration of the Law Library’s portion of the integrated library system and other resources, such as networked electronic resources, purchased by the Law Library. This position will assume a leadership role in Management System, as well as assisting the Director in creating and implementing a system to identify and digitize resources within the Law Library’s collection for purposes of preservation and enhanced accessibility. The Acquisitions and Systems Librarian will also work collaboratively with the Head of Collection Development on other preservation efforts.

The Acquisitions and Systems Librarian is responsible for tracking expenditures of the Law Library’s $1.8 million book budget and works with the acquisitions staff to resolve complex problems relating to these expenditures. Along with the Director and the Head of Cataloging, the Acquisitions and Systems Librarian participates in developing plans, policies and procedures for the department. There is an opportunity to participate in reference desk duty if there is an interest.

Required Qualifications

Must have an MLS degree or equivalent from an ABA accredited program; significant experience with acquisitions; extensive experience with integrated library systems; knowledge of standard print preservation techniques; understanding of the legal information system and knowledge of trends in legal publishing; demonstrated supervisory experience; effective written and oral communication skills; strong analytical skills; ability to work in a collaborative and supportive manner.
