AALL 2003 Meeting

FROM: James S. Heller, 1998-99 AALL President

TO: Georgia Briscoe, President CoALL

Dear Georgia:

I [sic] writing to let you know that the Executive Board selected Seattle as the site for the AALL Annual Meeting and Conference in 2003. The AALL executive staff received bids from Seattle, Vancouver and Denver. The bids were comparable in many ways. However, Seattle offered the best overall package, including numerous hotels in close proximity to the Convention Center. Furthermore, the vacant square city block across from the Convention Center creates a big question mark. If a new hotel is built there by 2003 it will be booked by another group and we would presumably be sharing space in the Convention Center with another meeting or trade show.

On behalf of the Executive Board, I want to thank CoALL for expressing interest and willingness in hosting the Association's Annual Meeting and Conference. I think Denver would be a terrific site for an annual meeting. I am certain -- and as a former westerner, hope -- that Denver will be a possible site the next time the Association meets in the West.

Sincerely,

Jim Heller
