But it also creates challenges in the legal environment (and elsewhere) when fixed content is necessary for legal writers to support their conclusions. Judges, attorneys, academics, and others using citations need systems and practices to preserve web content as it exists in a particular moment in time, and make it reliably available. On October 24, 2014 Georgetown University Law Library in Washington, D.C. will host a symposium that explores the problem of link and reference rot.Register

It is very easy to put cases and statutes online; it is very difficult to prove who created them and that they were not tampered with prior to the end user accessing them. Programs during the day-long institute will include: passage of the Uniform Electronic Legal Materials Act; current state implementation efforts; information technology tools required to create cyber fingerprints; MCLE luncheon with keynote speaker, Diane Boyer-Vine, California Legislative Counsel, and an off-site reception in the Old Town district following the conclusion of programming.
