A legislative committee is key to your chapter's success. By forming
a team of dedicated advocates to keep an eye on issues in your state
and communicate with the AALL Government Relations Committee and
Government Relations Office, you can help build long-term success in
your state and on our federal issues. Your committee members are
encouraged to join and contribute to the AALL Advocacy Listserv, read and subscribe to the Washington Blawg, and stay on top of the federal issues that the Government Relations Office makes easy to follow.
Your dedicated team of advocates will track key state
legislation, issues and trends that affect law libraries and advise
your chapter's Executive Board on important policy matters and action
opportunities. When the Government Relations Office needs pressure put
on certain Representatives or Senators here in D.C., we'll turn to you
to help us apply that pressure where it's needed most. AALL Advocacy
Communications Assistant Emily Feldman will work with your chapter's
legislative committee to take action when necessary, drafting letters
for you to send to your members of Congress and helping you identify
the key issues to address.
Your chapter's legislative committee will be our eyes and ears on developments of interest to all
law librarians. By keeping us informed about what's going on in your
state and sending us policy-related chapter news to include in the Washington E-Bulletin,
we'll be able to help you and other AALL chapters respond more
effectively to issues that affect law libraries on the local, state,
and federal levels.
