AALL Holds National Summit on Authentication
This is an exciting week for AALL. On April 20-21, we will host a National Summit on Authentic Legal Information in the Digital Age. The 50 delegates who will be participating in this event are a distinguished group of individuals: judges, state government officials, attorneys, and leaders of AALL and of other organizations, such as the American Bar Association. They were invited because of their interest and expertise in some aspect of legal/government information. The summit will take place at the Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel and Convention Center, which is located near O'Hare Airport in Chicago.
Delegates at the summit will discuss the authenticity and official status of state-level primary legal sources, an issue raised in the recently-released AALL report, State-by-State Report on Authentication of Online Legal Resources. The goals for the summit are to explore legal and technological solutions to this issue, to develop an action plan and strategies for implementation, and to build new alliances with other organizations.
Watch for materials from the summit to be posted soon on AALLNET. We hope that many AALL members will want to learn more about the authentication issue and will take part in subsequent grassroots efforts at the individual state level. Discussions of how AALL will follow up on the summit are to continue at the Annual Meeting in New Orleans during the Legislative Advocacy Training on July 14 and during Program E-1 on July 16.
The Day in the Life of the Law Library Community photo contest is in the final stage of judging. Members of the AALL Public Relations Committee have narrowed down the nearly 200 entries to the top five in each category, and you now have the chance to vote for your favorite photos.
This week, April 16-23, AALL members will choose the best photo in each category and one best overall photo. Simply login with your AALLNET members-only e-mail and password. Please note that you will only be able to vote once.
A Day in the Life of the Law Library Community, sponsored by the AALL Public Relations Committee, is a nation-wide photo contest to document law librarians working, meeting, teaching, and doing all that law librarians do in a given work day. Winners will be recognized on AALLNET, in the July 2007 issue of AALL Spectrum, and during the 2007 AALL Annual Meeting in New Orleans.
Please send any questions or comments to Public Relations Committee Chair Phill Johnson.
