This firm is assisting the Executive Director Search Special Committee in identifying a qualified and diverse pool of candidates for consideration.
Changes Coming for Law Library Journal
Frank Houdek announced that he will step down as editor of Law Library Journal this year, at the end of volume 99, after more than 13 years of exemplary service in that position. To conduct a search to identify a new editor, I appointed a task force, chaired by Richard Leiter. Members of the Law Library Journal Editor Search Task Force are: Paul Healey, Mary Lu Linnane, Kris Niedringhaus, and Kathie Sullivan. Serving as ex-officio members are Frank Houdek and Steve Ligda, interim executive director.
LLJ is the preeminent journal in the field of law librarianship and legal research. Published by AALL since 1908, it contains scholarly articles on law, legal materials, and librarianship. Other features of LLJ include practice-oriented articles; proceedings of the business sessions of the Annual Meeting; and annual reports of AALL committees, special interest sections, chapters, and representatives. The editor of LLJ is responsible for determining the editorial content for each issue of the quarterly journal, including reviewing manuscripts and soliciting potential authors.
The LLJ editorship is a member volunteer position. The editor is appointed for a five-year term, which may be renewable. An honorarium is granted. The qualified applicant will have a bachelors degree and MLS and/or JD; demonstrated ability as a writer and/or editor; excellent communication and negotiation skills; substantial experience in the law library profession; and familiarity with legal scholarly writing conventions and citation formats. The successful applicant should also be a member of AALL with record of involvement and active participation.
For more details, please visit the LLJ editor position description posted on AALLNET. Applications will be accepted until March 15, and interviews will be conducted in Chicago in early May.

Participants Needed for AALL Mentor Project
Matching newer law librarians with more experienced members of the profession is a major goal of the Mentoring Committee. But they need your help. Now is the time to apply to be a mentor or a mentee. The application deadline is May 13, to allow matching to be done in time for the Annual Meeting. On the Mentor Project site you'll find more information and separate application forms for mentors and mentees.
AALL Grants Available
The AALL Grants Committee invites qualified applicants to apply for AALL's Annual Meeting/Workshop Grants and the Minority Leadership Development Award. The AALL Grants Program provides financial assistance to law librarians or graduate students who hold promise of future involvement in AALL and the law library profession. Vendors, AALL, and AALL individual members provide the funds for grants.
Annual Meeting and Workshop Grants are awarded to cover the Annual Meeting registration fee or the registration fee for workshops presented at the Annual Meeting. Preference is given to applicants who are new to the profession and are active in AALL or one of its chapters.
The Minority Leadership Development Award was created to ensure that AALL's leadership remains vital, relevant, and representative of the Association's diverse membership. The award provides up to $1,500 toward the cost of attending the Annual Meeting, an experienced AALL leader to serve as the recipient's mentor, and an opportunity to serve on an AALL committee during the year following the monetary award.
Application deadline: April 2.
Day in the Life Photo Contest Ends Next Week
Don't forget to turn in your Day in the Life Photo Contest entries by next Wednesday, February 28.
During the month of February, AALL members are taking a wide range of photographs of law librarians working, meeting, teaching, and doing all that law librarians do in a given day. Entries are due by the end of the month, and they will be judged online by the membership in April. Winners will be recognized on AALLNET, in the July 2007 issue of AALL Spectrum, and during the AALL Annual Meeting in New Orleans.
Visit the Day in the Life site for complete contest rules, photography tips, and to upload your photo entries.
Transitions
Lynn Cotteleer, AALL director of finance and administration, left AALL last week to take a management position with a public accounting firm in the Chicago suburbs. Lynn began her job with us in June 2005. She has been a valuable staff member and has made substantial contributions to the Association. We are grateful to Lynn and wish her well in her future endeavors. Plans are underway to manage the transition period until we hire someone to fill this position.
Sincerely,
Sarah (Sally) Holterhoff
AALL President
