AALL Seeks Next AALL Spectrum Editorial Director
AALL Spectrum Editorial Director Paul Healey recently notified the Law Library Journal and AALL Spectrum Editorial Board Advisory Committee that he will step down from his position when his term is up in July 2007. To prepare for the transition, AALL has officially begun the search for Spectrum's next editorial director, a volunteer position that comes with an honorarium.
Working in conjunction with Spectrum's managing editor, the editorial director is responsible for determining the editorial content for each issue of the monthly magazine, including generating story ideas, soliciting potential authors, and collaborating with authors to develop their articles. The editorial director also serves as an ex-officio member of the Law Library Journal and AALL Spectrum Editorial Board and Advisory Committee to help guide the magazine's long-term editorial vision and direction.
The qualified candidate has a bachelor's degree and MLS and/or JD; demonstrated ability as a writer and/or editor; excellent communication and negotiation skills; substantial experience in the law library profession; and is a member of AALL with record of involvement and active participation.
This is a three-year appointment with honorarium that may be renewable. For a complete description of this volunteer opportunity and a fact sheet about AALL Spectrum, please visit the job description on AALLNET.
Applications will be accepted until June 1, and interviews will be conducted this fall. To help with the transition, the chosen candidate will begin in early 2007, overlapping with Healey until July.
To apply, please send your cover letter and resume to Executive Director Susan E. Fox, American Association of Law Libraries, 53 W. Jackson Boulevard, Suite 940, Chicago, IL 60604. If you have any questions, please contact Executive Director Fox at 312/939-4764, ext. 11, or by email.
Corrected American Airlines Authorization Code for Annual Meeting
The authorization number for American Airlines is incorrect on the travel page of the Preliminary Program (pg 42). We have received calls from members telling us they can't use the code because there are too many numbers. Please note that the correct code is: A9676AF not A97676AF.
2004-2005 Year in Review Online
We've recently added the AALL 2004-2005 Year in Review to AALLNET. The annual report highlights the facts, figures, and fantastic accomplishments realized under the leadership of Past President Victoria Trotta. The report also includes links to AALLNET for further information, applications, or full-text publications. We hope you find the report informative and enjoyable.
100 Years in 100 Days
Did you know that on June 3, 1920, the first banquet to culminate an AALL Annual Meeting was held at the Antlers Hotel in Colorado Springs, during the 15th Annual Meeting?
To whet your appetite for the centennial festivities at the Annual Meeting in St. Louis, July 8-12, AALLNET is counting down AALL's 100 years, from 1906 to 2005, one year at a time for 100 days. Click on the year listed beneath the centennial logo on the AALLNET homepage to see the facts about that year prepared by Frank G. Houdek. The page also provides a link to an archive of previously covered years on the Centennial Web site, maintained by the AALL Centennial Celebration Committee. So visit AALLNET every day to learn about a new year in AALL history.
Law Librarians in the Media
Some of our members have been featured in outside media recently. AALL member Carol Ebbinghouse wrote an article about legal research on the Web for Searcher: The Magazine for Database Professionals, which is published by Information Today, Inc.
Also, Wisconsin Public Radio used some of our "Day in the Life" photos on their site to publicize their At10 talk show and an interview with John Hubbard, electronic resources librarian at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, who published an essay, "Librarians: We're Not What You Think" that also included the photos.
Sincerely,
Susan E. Fox, CAE
Executive Director
