STRATEGIC DIRECTIONS
The AALL Executive Board meets each November, and this year's meeting will focus on our Strategic Directions Initiative. During this exercise, we will identify and discuss trends in the legal profession and how those trends present challenges for law librarianship. We will brainstorm about how AALL must position itself to best support law librarians and succeed in the face of future challenges and trends. Then, we will articulate a series of strategic principles that will shape AALL programs and services in the near term to support law librarians.
The board has been gathering information from a variety of sources to help in its study and deliberations. An important piece of the information gathering is to solicit the opinions of Association members. We want to know what you think about the professional challenges that you face and what suite of AALL programs and services would best serve to support your continued professional growth and success.
We have crafted three opportunities for you to express yourself, and we do want to hear from you. Click on the links below to learn more about each of the options, and then get started! We look forward to hearing from YOU.
1. Online Questionnaire. This option asks questions about programs and services AALL currently provides and asks your opinions about which programs and services should remain, which should go, and what new ones should be started.
2. Moderated Online Discussions. We will be running three simultaneous moderated online discussions the week of October 25. These discussions will last one week. They are organized around broad library types: private/corporate; academic; and state, court, and county. Of course, you are free to join whatever discussion you wish. The same questions will be posted to all three lists.
3. Bulletin Board - we're calling this The AALL Water Cooler. This option poses the same questions as those found in the online questionnaire, but this option allows you to see other members' comments.
I encourage each of you to participate in this important activity. The formal member input module will run through November 12. Please let us know what you think about the future of AALL.
Sincerely,
Victoria K. Trotta
Associate Dean for Information Technology and the Ross-Blakley Law Library
